Since Halloween tends to be a weeklong affair these days, we are betting that you have started seeing some repeat costumes out there. What will be the most overdone Halloween costume of 2013? Our money is on twerking Miley Cyrus, what do you think?
Today (Friday May 18th) is Tina Fey’s birthday. It should be a national holiday, the woman is an American gem. She’s smart, she’s funny, she’s cute…she’s perfect! As a present to Tina (she totally reads this blog) we’re putting two links about her!
With the loss of Donna Summer and Mary Kennedy in the same week we would be remiss in not including this list.
If these movies don’t make you laugh and cry you have no soul.
Every day Ranker puts up a “daily dose of cuteness” picture on Facebook and Twitter. It’s usually a really cute animal doing really cute things. This is a collection of the daily doses that got the most votes, shares, and retweets!
Data collected from our site shows that people who like 30 Rock have a dark side…
The Beatles..no the Stones…no Zeppelin…no The Beatles…the battle rages on
You’ll be shocked and awed and tickled by this list.
Ranker cannot wait for the new Batman movie to come out! Who’s your favorite character?
Ranky chose this list this week because of a list he read on on Film School Rejects. See they said they complied The 10 Greatest Movies of All Time (According to the Internet) but really they got a bunch of movie critics together to choose them. Now, that’s not the Internet…you guys are the Internet and you voted on our list….a lot. Personally, Ranky doesn’t trust people who put Empire Records on their personal top 10 movie list that is clearly a guilty pleasure pick. A lot of these seem to be “safe” choices and the don’t even get Ranky started on the female critics on their lists…Ranky is quite the film snob. However, the fact several critics chose “The Apartment” made up for a lot of other things ( mainly Alison Long and Gwen Reyes choices).
Objectum Sexuals -are a group of people who fall in love with objects. They believe that this is a reciprocated feeling and that they can communicate telepathically with these items.
This list is compiled of 13 people who suffer from OS, one woman on the list, Amy Wolf , is in love with a fairground ride called 1001 Nacht. She shows her love for the ride by writing it poetry, and carrying around extra nuts and bolts from the ride.
Erika La Tour Eiffel married the Eiffel Tower and then legally changed her name to “take” the last name of her wife. Yes, Erika gets a “sense of gender” and the Eiffel Tower is apparently a female. Erika joined the US Air Force but during her training, was sexually assaulted, and defended herself with a Japanese sword, which was her lover at the time. She refused to give up (break up) with the weapon and was then discharged from the military for psychological reasons. She then fell in love with an archery bow – she became a US medal champion in archery – but her feelings for the bow had run it’s course and that relationship ended. That’s when Erika moved on to Eiffel, on their one-year anniversary, Erika goes back to visit the Eiffel Tower to consummate their marriage. She lifts up her skirt, and straddles one of the beams with “no barrier” between them.
All of this can be seen in a documentary called “Married To The Eiffel Tower”, or you can just take a look at our list.
It’s the weekend and I’m pretty excited for it. I’ve got a lot of things planned, Disneyland, catching up on my DVR (DO NOT tell me what happens on Downton Abbey, I haven’t watched yet), maybe seeing a new movie. What are you guys up to this weekend?
Let’s look back over the week and see what cool lists the internet put out:
We used this list during our “Friday Game Day” I really did think that rice killed birds…and I could not believe this rabbit was real:
But he is, that’s Herman (the bunny not the man) he’s 22 pounds and three feet tall. Daaaaang!
This list is insane, how badly do you have to want an iPhone that you would give your kidney for it? The phone is only cool for about 20 mins, then you just get sick of it. Your kidney on the other hand is good for a lifetime!
Lists Of Note put together this really awesome and interesting list. Apparently, Kubrick and his personal assistant, Tony Frewin, kept an ever-growing, lighthearted list of potential movie titles that they called, “Titles in search of a script.” This is an excerpt from it. The creative mind is such an amazing and crazy thing.
Kate Upton is the new model for this years SI: Swimsuit Issue, so naturally we had to make a list of the hottest models…because Kate is pretty hard to beat.
Do I need to explain this one? It’s cats and dogs… two creature who are thought to be mortal enemies hugging and it is adorable.
There it is the weekend round-up. Question for you guys, how many of you would be interested in seeing a video series of these featuring Ranker people? Maybe even a few of you guys as special guests? Think about it and let us know!!
Ranker does everything with a twist, we don’t just do “Best Of” lists we do “Best Of And Then Some” lists. For example we don’t just “great singers” we do Vocalists Who Would Be Lost Without Their Guitars. See, a little twist goes a long way!
So, this Tuesday happens to be Valentine’s day, and so we’re going to tell you some twisted facts about today.
February has long been celebrated as a “romantic month” mainly because it contains Valentine’s Day. This day is all about candies, flowers, and love– or is it? The legend of Valentine’s Day is clouded in mystery but what we do know is this:
There are 3 different saints named Valentine or Valentinus, all of whom were martyred. Whoa, that got dark.
One of the more famous stories is of course, a more romantic one see, Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families, so being the sweetheart that he was, he outlawed marriage for young men. Valentine, realizing that it was B.S to deny people marriage (do you hear that prop 8?), defied Claudius and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. When Valentine was found out, Claudius ordered that he be put to death. Now, that is a man that believes in the sanctity of marriage.
But there are other stories that would have you believe that Valentine may have been killed for attempting to help Christians escape harsh Roman prisons, where they were often beaten and tortured. This legend says, an imprisoned Valentine actually sent the first “valentine” greeting himself after he fell in love with a young girl–maybe his jailor’s daughter–who visited him during his confinement. Before his death, it is alleged that he wrote her a letter signed “From your Valentine,” an expression that is still in use today. Although the truth behind the Valentine legends is unclear it’s always very romantic and somewhat dangerous.
So there you have it…the twist truth on this Tuesday Valentine’s Day Edition!
